The 2014 Small Business Convention is the premier event for small business professionals in the Midwest. The Convention will take place on October 22-24, 2014 at Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio.
Proposals are now being accepted for Convention workshops. Keynote speakers have already been selected. No previously presented proposals will be accepted.
Application Deadline: All proposals must be submitted by Friday May 2, 2014.
Selection of speakers with corresponding workshops will be announced by Monday May 19, 2014. All notifications will be sent via email by 5:00 p.m.
Guidelines and Standards for Workshop Presenters at the Small Business Convention (SBC) presented by Council of Smaller Enterprises
As a potential speaker at the SBC you have a great opportunity to advance your skills as a speaker and thought leader as you join the SBC Team. As you apply you are agreeing to support the mission and goals the SBC Committee has established for the Small Business Convention.
Guidelines for 2014 include:
You agree to attend the entire Convention and complete a venue walkthrough the day before your talk. Any exception must be approved by the Convention chairman prior to being accepted as a speaker.
This is and educational opportunity for Convention attendees. This is not a venue for your sales pitch.
The time available for your talk is 60 minutes. This includes time for Q&A and as a speaker we ask that you be available after your talk to answer questions.
Our attendees are entrepreneurs & business owners as well as their team and professional advisors who support the growth of small business. This is the target audience for your talk and your goal is to inspire this audience.
Use the Convention designed format for PowerPoint presentations.
You may bring handouts of your slides.
You may also bring your business cards and supporting handouts related to your topic to offer at the front of the room for attendees to collect.
SBC Workshop speakers understand that travel and lodging costs are the responsibility of the speakers. Event registration for the Convention for SBC Workshop Speakers is complimentary.
We begin speaker selection on May 5th and offer invitations by May 19. We will inform you either way if we are able to take advantage of your content in the Small Business Convention.
The 2014 SBC Committee is looking for you as the expert to provide small business owners with content that is relevant for their business. Please submit any workshop topic that you feel would be beneficial to small business. All workshop topics that are proposed must fall within the following categories: Finance, HR & Legal, Sales & Marketing, Professional Development, Start-Up and Technology.
Prior to beginning your application, please note the following materials are required for consideration:
- Workshop title
- Workshop description (75-100 words max)
- 3-5 Learning objectives
- Brief, three- to five-minute video clip which showcases your speaking style (Video Upload)
- 150-word bio
- Description of your expertise
- Professional headshot (Image Upload)
- Three references which may be contacted
- Optional: Additional uploads for consideration (Document Uploads)
You may submit multiple proposals; however, you may only be selected to present one workshop.
